Vinyl floorcoverings manufactured in Europe have been given the highest possible A+ rating in the new BRE Green Guide to environmentally sustainable products.

“This is terrific news for the industry,” says Polyflor marketing manager Simon James. “It vindicates our long held belief that in environmental terms the long service life of vinyls, their ability to be recycled and their performance benefits in use make them the ideal choice among resilient floorcoverings.

“We have always maintained that high performance, choice, best value and lowest environmental impact were compatible features of Polyflor products.”

Generically, vinyl floorcoverings – including homogeneous, heterogeneous and safety floors – are now BRE A+ rated for major use areas, such as education and health.

“This levels the playing field for all competing manufacturers but it isn’t the end of the environmental story,” says Simon James.

“The fact that vinyl, generically, is now A+ or A rated will make life simpler for specifiers but it also makes it even more important for manufacturers to successfully pursue other environmental performance objectives in order to differentiate themselves from those who are less environmentally active and aware.”

The latest Polyflor Environmental Report goes into exceptional detail to explain and quantify Polyflor progress in areas such as recycling, reducing energy usage, carbon emissions and waste.
