The aim of the brightly-coloured and lively design is to make a stay in hospital more pleasant for children and their families. The idea came from senior consultant Dr Urban Himbert to have the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine designed by “Die kleinen Patienten e.V. – Hilfe für kranke Kinder”, a private initiative based in Bonn which since then has been responsible for fitting out 36 hospitals and facilities with children in mind. Bodo Gensch, founder of the association, worked with designer Michael Beilke in developing the ideas for Neuwied.
The floor is a key element of the child-friendly environment and child-centric furnishings at a hospital, as small children are much closer to the floor and nervous children in particular tend to look down.
Mystique PUR in sunny yellow shade Giallo and fresh green Alpi were used throughout patients rooms, communal areas and corridors. Over 100 inlay designs were also used throughout the department, featuring even more shades from the collection, such as Azurite, Ametista and Corallo. The flooring on this project was installed by Bomm Malerwerkstätte of Weitersburg.
