Kerry Edwards 15 October 2015 12:26:54With an estimated 47.5 million people currently living with dementia around the world (WHO, 2015) it is becoming even more important to consider dementia-friendly design when working on new build or refurbishment projects.
To demonstrate our commitment to dementia care, Polyflor has launched a brand new specialist care brochure to help outline the key design principles for creating dementia-friendly environments. These dementia-friendly flooring principles have been developed in collaboration with the University of Salford’s School of the Built Environment and Institute for Dementia, pinpointing how specifiers can select flooring that contribute to less stress and anxiety for people living with the condition.
Alongside a useful dementia-friendly flooring checklist, the brochure features a number of case studies where Polyflor flooring has been installed in some of the UK’s leading care facilities, including Anya Court, Winchcombe Place, Belong Warrington Care Village and Manor Hospital.
We also take a closer look at our latest case study, Cwmgelli Lodge in Blackwood, Wales where 1700m² of wood effect Forest fx PUR sheet vinyl and Polysafe Standard PUR was installed throughout communal areas, circulation spaces, café and dining areas as well as bedrooms and en-suites. Take a walk around Cwmgelli Lodge on the latest video upload to Polyflor TV.
Polyflor is also a longstanding partner of the International Dementia Design Network at the University of Salford. We are also a local members of the Dementia Action Alliance, which is committed to transforming the lives of people with dementia and their carers. Our employees have benefitted from taking part in Dementia Friends information sessions to give staff a better understanding of dementia.
