The new £1.7 million centre currently houses around 50 cats and 15 dogs, has a state-of-the-art veterinary suite and boasts cat and dog ‘meet and greet rooms’. The project started in February 2016 with the completed centre opening its doors to the public in May 2017.
Three shades of Polysafe Mosaic PUR safety flooring were used throughout the building, with various colours being used to indicate different zones. The blue Freshwater shade was installed in the reception, shop, corridors, dog meet and greet room, operating theatre and clinic. The beige Akoya design was fitted in the cattery, upstairs office area and training room.
Polysafe Mosaic flooring in Sunstone was chosen for the isolation rooms where dogs and cats who need to be separated from other animals in the main kennels and cattery for health reasons are kept. Colour coding is used to help RSPCA staff to use the correct cleaning products in each area, for example, the red labelled brooms and mops are only to be used in the isolation areas with red floors.
Polysafe Mosaic PUR is a high specification, decorative safety vinyl flooring available in 10 colours with an impressive high density flake decoration and safety aggregates incorporated in the vinyl. This product complies with HSE and UK Slip Group Guidelines to give sustainable slip resistance, achieving 36+ on the Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber) as well as adhering to EN 13845 – the European standard for safety flooring.
Polyflor’s safety flooring passed a rigorous building inspection from RSPCA Head Office where building specifications had to be submitted and approved before the facility could be opened. Polysafe Mosaic flooring was coved up the walls and welded to provide a hygienic surface that can be easily cleaned. This flooring is robust enough to withstand frequent cleaning with the animal-friendly Anigene disinfectant cleaner which is used at the facility as part of the effective maintenance procedure. Polysafe Mosaic features Polyflor’s high quality polyurethane reinforcement (PUR) which is cross-linked and UV cured for a low cost, lifetime polish-free maintenance regime.
Denise McCabe, Operations Director for the Bury Oldham and District branch commented, “We chose Polyflor’s Polysafe Mosaic safety flooring for our new facility as we had some installed in our old centre and found it performed much better than our resin floors. We are delighted with the finished look of the RSPCA Bury & Oldham branch and are very grateful to Polyflor for their generous donation.”
RSPCA Bury & Oldham are fundraising to further improve their new facility. Their next project is a sensory paddock where RSPCA staff can conduct behavioural work with dogs, getting them used to outdoor smells and textures. They would also like to purchase more clinical equipment to improve their mobile clinic which travels to areas in the local community.
