End of the row - Polyflor vinyl flooring for housing - residential

Interior design student Stacey Dyer used her Instagram account, End of the Row, to document the renovation of her Suffolk end-of-terrace Edwardian home. Polyflor’s Camaro Wood PUR in Georgian Parquet was selected for the newly extended kitchen-dining area of the house to balance both the original style of the house, and the personalised stamp Stacey wanted to put on the property.

Edwardian homes – those built between 1900 and 1910 – account for more than 25% of the UK’s housing stock, and are hugely popular for their displays of Arts and Crafts architecture and design features, including high ceilings, carved features and decorative fittings.

Today, Edwardian properties are often sought after by budding renovators looking to combine heritage features with modern design principles to create homes packed with character.

Interior design student Stacey Dyer has shown just how much potential these types of homes have with her Instagram account End of the Row, which documents her Suffolk end-of-terrace Edwardian terrace renovation project. Stacey set up the Instagram account in 2016 to record the refurbishment, and now the account is followed by 234,000 people.

Having already completed transformations of the property’s living areas and bedrooms, in 2020 Stacey opted to extend the kitchen-dining area of the house to create a larger space, which would be more suitable for entertaining. It was essential that all the fittings selected for the renovation would be in keeping with both the original style of the house, and the personalised stamp Stacey had put on it since moving in.

Polyflor’s Camaro Wood PUR in Georgian Parquet was selected for the space, for its warming oak tone which complemented the original wood flooring in other rooms of the home. Fitted as individual tiles in a parquet-style pattern, Stacey selected Camaro for its varying shades and authentic surface texture which replicate the beauty of natural wood.

The floor spans the kitchen, dining room and downstairs toilet, which adjoins the kitchen. It has a two-tile-width border, which Stacey chose after using the online Polyflor flooring visualiser to see how the pattern and colour of tile would work against their Scandinavian-style green kitchen cabinets, white quartz worktops and brass door handles.

Stacey said: “I’m overjoyed with the finished look we’ve achieved with the Camaro flooring in Georgian Parquet. It was essential to choose a flooring which could be applied in a parquet pattern – it suits the traditional style of our home but also feels homely. The colour and texture make the room cosy and comfortable and the tiles feel warm underfoot.

“The shade and tone of the floor match the other rooms in the house, while the texture hides a multitude of food splatters from our children! We had a different type of Camaro fitted in the kitchen before the renovation, so we knew it was very hard wearing and easy to clean compared to the wear and tear you experience with real wood. Simple maintenance was essential for us, with the room getting so much use from the whole family.

“The flooring is the final piece of the puzzle in this huge milestone of getting the extension finished. We couldn’t be happier with how the room has come together and the flooring makes all the difference.”
