Founded in 1991, Newman School in Cajicá, Colombia, offers bilingual education (in English and Spanish) to young children.
Now well-established, it is undergoing a long-term campus renovation that will modernise all learning environments and conclude by 2028.
For the most recent upgrade, an existing building was transformed into state-of-the-art science laboratories.
Newman School sought a modern, warm, technologically driven appearance, with the laboratory flooring also needing to meet the same design specification.
Furthermore, from a functional standpoint, the specified flooring products had to provide key attributes:
- Heavy-duty homogeneous sheet vinyl flooring to withstand heavy laboratory footfall
- An impervious and hygienic seamless finish offering no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria
- PUR for easier cleanability and maintenance cost savings
- Excellent resistance to chemicals and staining
To achieve their desired outcome, the school management team commissioned design services from CR+A , based in Bucaramanga, north of Cajicá, and led by Andrés Cruz, Architect and Partner.
Cruz concluded that Palettone PUR from Polyflor met all requirements, making it the ideal flooring specification for this youthful educational project.
As such, the laboratories were fitted with approximately 350 m² of flooring across five colourful shades within the collection:
CR+A enjoyed specifying the Newman School project, on which they utilised Polyflor products for the first time.
Cruz and his Design Team commended Palettone PUR for offering many additional benefits beyond the design brief: robust technical performance, proven durability, and simple installation.
Additionally, its versatile, well-curated colour palette permitted CR+A to combine numerous shades seamlessly, reinforcing the design concept.

Since its completion, Newman School students have enjoyed enhanced science classes within vibrant new surroundings that pave the way for this ambitious educational institute.

The fixtures and fittings within the University of Mpumalanga, in South Africa, were selected to ensure the spaces were bright and light with a carefully chosen palette of colours to match natural materials and the campus’ broader aesthetic and natural surroundings. Silentflor was selected in Cool Concrete and used across the entire scheme, chosen for its aesthetic appeal, with the shade practically mirroring the mountainous landscape surrounding the campus, and its ability to minimise noise.

This exemplary academy school in Stoke-on-Trent, the birthplace of Sir Stanley Matthews, provides a lasting tribute to the late football icon. The large-scale project required a substantial quantity of flooring to meet the daily demands of use by students and staff.
